Baby Blues

Happy New Year!
Long time, no blog...
It's been a hectic month- McKenna was hit in her left eye
at school two weeks ago. Some kid tossed his baseball cap
in her direction and the brim hit her right in the eyeball.
It was a pretty serious injury, according to the eye specialist
the hospital referred us to. There was hemorrhaging and pressure
behind the pupil and she had to take three different forms of
eyedrops four times daily. She had to wear this really weird
metal eyepatch with holes punched through it that reminded me
of the Spiderman mask from the 70's T.V. series with the Von Trapp kid.
On top of that, he put her on bedrest, so she couldn't attend school
for the rest of the week, which meant Michele and I had to alternate
days off to stay home with her. It was a draining experience for all.
I'm happy to report that she's doing much better now.
I don't know what I'd do without those baby blues.
Just one of those moments in life where you cry a little and hold your breath a lot.

P.S.- Good Luck to anyone who is forced to keep a 7 year old on "bedrest"....Indeed!

P.S.S.- Breaking in a fine new sketchbook given to me for Christmas by my co-worker
"El" Sid....it smells of leather and rich mahogany...it's quite pungent!
Doesn't it just waft through the monitor?

Hey brutha! Glad everything is good with Kenna. I agree eye injuries are scary. When I was 16 my little brother threw those hard parallegram shaped eraser at my right eye and he was only about 2-3 ft away from me..I wanted to kill him!

But anyway glad evertything is better and glad to see you back buddy! nice sketch book!

Hey there Reverend. Wow! I missed this post and Rachel told me about it. Glad to hear she's feeling better. I freak out over eye injuries. I don't know what I'd do if I couldn't read. Can you imagine trying to get through a Pynchon novel in Braille? I think it would sand down my fingerprints and I could become a super villain.

I don't want to sound morbid, but have you considered a Kenna sketch with the weird eye contraption? I think she'd think it was cool, and it would be an interesting artistic challenge. Go ahead, I dare you. I double DOG dare you.

Or just tell me to STFU.

I also think that the challenge of a young one on bed rest is relative and that your little girl would be on the more difficult end of the spectrum.

I'm going to call to talk to you this weekend. Suck it up and talk to me for a while, will ya?
